Few upgrades change daily comfort like seat climate control. In a Georgia summer, cooled seats feel essential, and heated seats make winter mornings easier. The good news: many vehicles can have them added.
How heated seat retrofits work
Thin heating pads are placed between the seat foam and the cover, then wired to a switch and power source. When done right, they are invisible and feel like factory equipment.
How cooled seat retrofits work
Cooled, or ventilated, seats use small fans to move air through the seat. That requires fans mounted under the cushion, channels in the foam and perforated upholstery so air can pass through the surface. This is why cooled seat retrofits pair naturally with new upholstery.
Why to do it during reupholstery
Both upgrades require removing the seat covers. If you are already getting a custom interior, adding climate control at the same time saves labor and lets the material be chosen to match, such as perforated inserts for cooling. The Crush K5 GT kit, for example, uses perforated material and cooler foam so factory cooled seats keep working.
Things to consider
- Wiring and fusing: must be done properly to protect your electrical system.
- Switch placement: should look clean and be easy to reach.
- Airbags and sensors: passenger occupancy sensors must keep working.
Other comfort and tech upgrades
Pair climate seats with an Apple CarPlay retrofit, a heated steering wheel or ceramic tint to keep the cabin cooler before the seats even turn on.
